Research
In my research, I am working on the development of a cell-free biocatalytic method for amino acid production from green methanol produced by wind energy. The aim is to replace conventional production based on fossil raw materials with a carbon-neutral alternative. To achieve this, the synthetic enzyme formolase has to be improved using protein engineering strategies in order to elevate the successful method for synthesizing L-alanine to an industrially relevant level and extend it to other amino acids.
