Establishing a microfluidic platform for high throughput enzyme screening
In my PhD, I am specializing in the development of droplet-based high-throughput screening systems and assays. In droplet microfluidics, picoliter-sized droplets can be generated and analyzed at kHz speeds. These droplets serve as compartments similar to microplate wells. Microfluidics offers significantly higher screening throughputs compared to conventional methods while also decreasing overall reactant consumption to a few microliters. However, a droplet-based system has unique assay requirements. Therefore, this research focuses on developing novel assays tailored for droplet-based systems, specifically targeting the screening of enzyme variants and the identification of new enzymes within metagenomes.
