Dr Samuel Sutiono awarded with highly endowed Chorofas Prize
Dr. Samuel Sutiono (30) recently received the prestigious Chorafas Prize, endowed with 5,000 US dollars, for his outstanding research achievement as part of his doctoral thesis at the TUM Straubing Campus. The native Indonesian completed his dissertation at the Department of Chemistry of Biogenic Resources under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Volker Sieber. Dr. Sutiono developed valuable biocatalysts for the production of fine chemicals.
Long distance defense
Edilberto Medina Cabrera successfully defended his thesis entitled “Investigation and Optimization of Exopolysaccharide (EPS) Production by Microalgae” today. The examination took place with a time difference of seven hours and a distance of 11,200 km as the crow flies between Arequipa, Peru and Straubing via Zoom. Congratulations Edi!
Summa cum laude
Christoph Schilling not only successfully completed his doctorate at our chair, but was also awarded the highest distinction “summa cum laude” for his thesis entitled “Metabolic Engineering of Paenibacillus polymyxa DSM 365”. The Chair congratulates him and wishes him all the best for his furhter path.
The third dissertation of the year
Münster/Straubing. Another successful doctorate: Moritz Gansbiller successfully defended his dissertation. The title of his thesis was “Effect of exopolysaccharide structures and their modification on their rheological properties”. We wish him every success in Münster.

TUM begins work at Perfecoat project
TUM is part of the new BBI JU and EU Horizon 2020 Project PERFECOAT – High Performance Bio-based Functional Coatings for Wood and Decorative Applications
Project aims to develop and validate wood and decorative coatings with more than 25 % bio-based components. The project started May 1st 2021 with a duration of 36 months. TUM contributes their expertise on microbial polysaccharides and microbial fillers.
